What type of Saxophone is suitable for a ten year old girl?

My daughter wants to play the saxophone and her teacher recommended the Alto sax? Is this too big for her and what type do I buy? Went of Craigslist and the cheapest was $300.00

what sax for a 10 yr. old girl
by: jerry

alto should be a nice size insrument for anyone..be very cautious about buying a used horn. saxophones are very intricate and must be adjusted and timed precisely to play properly. take any used horn to a person who repairs them before you buy it. a sax can look just fine outwardly and need several hundred dollars of work to make them playable. yamaha and conn student horns are very acceptable. there are a number of others but be sure to have any used sax checked by a pro.

I agree with the response given prior to mine. For your 10 year girl an alto saxophone should be just fine. I recommend you go with a recognized name, and not a saxophone made in China. Yamaha, and Conn are trusted names, but I do recommend you go to a music store near you, and see what they have to offer.
