Greetings,
I recently inherited a vintage 1957 Mark VI Alto sax from my father, and despite my love for the instrument, would like to sell it. I hope he'd be proud that it will help put his grandkids through college. I believe he was the second owner, and have a "tune-up" receipt from 1972 in his name.
The horn is completely original as far as I know and have been told. It has the original lacquer with some relatively minor wear on one side (see pix, and I have more on request). It is beautifully engraved as well. I can find no dents, smell no bad odors, the mechanisms worked wonderfully right out of the case, and I'm told its in excellent condition. I have two short (cell phone) videos of a professional playing it to offer evidence to this. The sound quality in the videos is negligible, but you can see/hear the horn plays very well as it sits. The serial number is 72xxx, and it still has the blue paint around the "S". I also have a (worn) hard case, two mouthpieces (one Berg-Larsen), and a couple dozen reeds included (wow - I know).
I'd welcome any advice as to where/how to sell it, as well as any offers or references to potential buyers. I have a few leads, but am in the beginning of this journey. One musician offered me $6K cash as soon as he can gather the funds (+/-1 month), but even he conceded it would be a pretty good deal at that price.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice!
