Saxophone lessons?

Hi everyone, Im about to buy my first alto sax. Ive never played a sax before, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is necessary to have lessons? I play the piano and the guitar, both of which I have never had lessons for, but never touched a woodwind instrument in my life! Thanks, any comments would be greatly appreciated
