Reuben Saxophone?

by Trish
(Cairns, Australia)

Hi I'm trying to buy my daughter a first saxophone for her birthday. I was originally looking at a Selmer (USA) model, but unfortunatley it sold before I could buy it :(. The guy in the shop is now recommending a cheaper model a Reuben???? But I can't find anything online about them. Has anyone out there heard about them, how they perform, will they last etc....... Even as the cheapest in the shop they still cost 800 Aussie dollars so I don't want to just throw it away!! Any help much appreciated.
Thanks a million, Trish

definitely recommend
by: musicgirl

Hi,

I definitely recommend reuben as a brand...I have seen this man's workmanship for myself, been taught music and played beside him and played on a few of his instruments and find them of very good quality and better than some well known brands. Definitely value for money and you wouldn't be disappointed. Not everyone needs to be 'googlelised' and this instrument maker is very well known in australian music circles for his workmanship so give it a go!

i recommend this brand!
by: Reuben instrument fan

Hi,

I actually know the maker of Reuben instruments (He taught me music for many years so I would say i can vouch for his workmanship) The owner of these instruments is a local instrument maker in Qld who has been making musical instruments for many years and has ventured out to sell his own brand in the last decade. They are all extremely very good quality and my understanding is that they come with warranty. From someone who has played many different musical instruments and all different brands (both cheap and the expensive high top ranges) I really would recommend this brand as its a great quality and you won't be disappointed! (And i have a few of his instruments in my collection so I'm not just saying this!).

As for the previous commenter - as a fellow musician, just because someone isn't on the world wide web of google, don't bag it out unless you have tried it out yourself.

I wouldn`t do it!

Nothing against Reuben saxophones, but I have never heard of Reuben musical instruments. I would not purchase this brand if I could not find information on the instrument maker; you have too much to loss. You are doing the right thing by asking questions, and doing your own research. I recommend going with a trusted name - Selmer USA qualifies, just as an example, but there are other fine brands out there.

Well, I wish you all the best in your search for a saxophone. By-the-way, Happy Birthday to your daughter.
