Is the Conrad DSP Alto sax any good for a beginer?

I am considering buying my first Saxophone, and have seen this model for sale. Whilst I appreciate it is not a Yamaha, or equivalent, is it a solid unit for learning on?
I hope someone can help me out,
Thanks Clive

Yes! But be warned...

I have the exact same saxophone as you're referring to - I've been playing for about 4 years, and it's the only saxophone I have ever had. I would definitely recommend this model, since, although it's not a yamaha, a yanagisawa, a selmer or another top brand as you said, it certainly gets you through the early stages of learning, has a decent action and intonation and copes brilliantly with beginners. In fact, mine got me all the way through from beginner to grade 8 with distinction, although I had to buy an expensive selmer C* mouthpiece for my grade 8 exam in order to cope with the expressive requirements.

So, to summarise, I would recommend getting this saxophone if you are a beginner, but be prepared to spend more money leter if you plan to get to a higher standard.

Is the Conrad DSP Alto sax any good for a beginer?
by: Dominic

I have been playing sax, clarinet and flute since 1951.
I have been repairing instruments since 1978.
My last major concert was for a host of pretty impressive guests, including former President Bill Clinton.
When he was in Boston with Senator John Kerry for a fund-raising event for Senator Ted Kennedy.

I played in the 22-piece John Payne Saxophone Choir at the Park Plaza Castle.

Security was so tight,
the Secret Service did background checks on each musician and we had to leave our instruments at
the door to be searched by White House staff.

I have never heard of the Conrad DSP Alto sax.

What if you needed parts for it?

I do not know if there are any parts available.
