comparison of alto king 665

Please tell me how and where does a king empire alto 665 saxophone compare to other professional saxophones. I am looking for a rich full blues/jazz/soul sounding sax to play in church.(gospel music)

Thanks, Ken

King Horns
by: Anonymous

I'd go with a Vintage King Super 20 (and/or Silversonic). The horns made in Eastlake Ohio (vs Cleveland) are considerably less expensive and serial numbers in the 400xxx range are nearly identical to the ones that were made earlier in Cleveland Ohio.
There are a number of reputable vintage horn dealers you can google. I have bought my share of horns on EBAY and even when the seller had 100% cust sat score I have almost always had to take it in for a $1000 overhaul.

I did buy a little Martin Curvy soprano from Christopher Elliott and it played perfect out of the box.
