Beginner Alto Sax mouthpiece

My son is to start taking Alto Sax (beginner) in school. The paper given to us says to get a Selmer C* or Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. We went to the store recommended to us by the teacher and he sold me a Leblanc (Conn-Selmer) 2544P Vito II with a very generic looking ligature. What are your thoughts about this combination? I want to make sure this is what we need before I open the mouthpiece. I play many instruments including Brass and Strings, but have extremely limited experience with Woodwinds. Thanks.

Just a suggestion, but the Vito 2 isn't going to have the sound you're looking for in the long term. Just my opinion, but going full intermediate Selmer is best, if you plan on keeping the sax around a while. Better investment for the long term. And better sound. Hope this helps.

it is ridiculus to spend that much money for a mouth piece for a beginner. assuming you purchased a quality student level sax the mouth piece will be just fine. the selmer C* mouth piece is very good but not necessary for a beginning player. band instructors sometimes think all parents are rich!.. wait and see how your child does.
